Guwahati: India chased down a massive target of 406 runs against the West Indies in the second ODI in Guwahati, creating history in the process. Despite the enormous target, Team India never appeared under pressure and, under the leadership of Shubman Gill, secured a spectacular eight-wicket victory in just 43.3 overs.

This was only the second time in ODI history that a team successfully chased a target of more than 400 runs. South Africa had previously chased down 435 runs against Australia in 2006. With this victory, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

India's previous highest successful ODI chase was 360 runs against Australia in 2013. In Guwahati, captain Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma were the architects of India's victory. Gill smashed a magnificent double century and became the batter with the highest individual score while chasing in ODI cricket.

India defeated the West Indies by eight wickets at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Chasing the West Indies' 405 for 7, India reached 406 for 2 in just 43.3 overs.

Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 223 off 133 balls, completing his double century from 117 balls. His sensational innings included 26 fours and eight sixes. Ruturaj Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 31 alongside him.

Gill also achieved several records during the match. According to available statistics, he became the first player to score 200-plus runs in both the first and second innings of an ODI. His unbeaten 223 also became the highest individual score in ODI cricket while chasing.

Rohit Sharma also produced a brilliant century, scoring 101 off 75 balls to register his 35th ODI hundred. Gill and Rohit put on a massive 255-run opening partnership, laying the foundation for India's successful chase.

After Rohit was dismissed, Virat Kohli came to the crease but could not stay for long. Kohli scored 29 off 19 balls, including three fours and a six. Gill then continued his aggressive batting and guided India to a historic victory.

Earlier, West Indies posted 405 for 7 in their allotted 50 overs. Three of their batters scored centuries. John Campbell made 101 off 68 balls, captain Shai Hope scored 104 off 94 balls, while Amir Jangoo smashed 114 off 77 balls.

Campbell and Shai Hope added 110 runs for the second wicket, while Hope and Jangoo shared a 182-run partnership. Jangoo's century helped the West Indies cross the 400-run mark.

For India, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Gurnoor Brar took two wickets each, while Prasidh Krishna claimed one wicket.

India completed the 406-run chase with 39 balls to spare. Before this match, the only successful chase of a target above 400 in ODI cricket had been South Africa's famous 438-run chase against Australia in 2006.
