New Delhi: West Indies have announced their squad for the ODI and T20 series against India. Shai Hope has been appointed captain of both the ODI and T20 teams. The two teams will play three ODIs and five T20 matches.
Young batter Kamil Puran has been included in the T20 squad. He recently impressed with his performances in the Caribbean Premier League 2026. Puran scored 273 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 159.64.
Quinton Sampson has also returned to the squad. He was part of the West Indies team at the ICC T20 World Cup earlier this year. The inclusion of Shimron Hetmyer will further strengthen the batting line-up.
Experienced all-rounder Jason Holder has not been included in either squad and has been rested for the tour. John Campbell is also making a comeback after missing the series against New Zealand.
The two teams will face each other in the first ODI in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27.
West Indies are working to improve their form and performances ahead of next year's ICC ODI World Cup. Currently ranked 10th in the ICC ODI team rankings, West Indies will not qualify directly for the World Cup. However, head coach Daren Sammy says the series against India is an important opportunity for his team as part of their preparations for the upcoming World Cup.
Daren Sammy said, “Playing against the world’s No. 1 team gives us an opportunity to assess our performance in ODI cricket, work on our weaknesses and improve as a team. India have played outstanding, high-quality cricket throughout the season, so competing against them will be very beneficial for us.”
He added that the series would also provide an important platform to assess the abilities of players who could be entrusted with key responsibilities in the future. West Indies’ long-term goal is to participate in the 2027 World Cup with a competitive team, and the current series is an important part of that preparation.
