Indian opener Abhishek Sharma sets multiple records with a sensational batting display
New Delhi: Indian opener Abhishek Sharma produced a stunning batting performance in the third T20 International between India and Afghanistan, setting several records in the process.
Abhishek completed his century in just 30 balls, becoming the fastest Indian and the fastest batter from a Test-playing nation to score a century in T20 Internationals. He finished his explosive innings with 108 runs off 34 balls, including 9 fours and 11 sixes. He dominated the Afghan bowlers from the very beginning, reaching his half-century in just 16 balls.
With this century, Abhishek also broke the record for the fastest T20I century by an Indian. The previous record was held by Rohit Sharma, who scored a century off 35 balls in 2017.
Overall, Abhishek’s 30-ball century ranks among the fastest centuries in T20 International cricket. Sahil Chauhan holds the record for the fastest T20I century, scoring a 27-ball hundred for Estonia against Cyprus, while Muhammad Fahad of Turkey scored a century off 29 balls against Bulgaria.
Abhishek also provided India with a flying start alongside Sanju Samson. The pair added 142 runs for the first wicket in just 9.5 overs. India crossed the 100-run mark in only six overs.
Abhishek was particularly destructive during the Powerplay, scoring 76 runs off just 22 balls in the first six overs, setting a new record for the most runs scored by a batter during the Powerplay in T20 Internationals.
Abhishek has been in impressive form throughout the series. He scored 82 runs in the first T20I against Afghanistan and followed it up with 39 runs in the second match. His explosive 108-run knock in the third T20I not only gave India a strong foundation but also produced several new records in T20 International cricket.
