New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijit Dipke and his associates have demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging irregularities and manipulation in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. They warned that if the Chief Election Commissioner does not resign, protests will be held across the country.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar has come under attack from opposition parties over reported differences with the other two Election Commissioners regarding the SIR issue. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has launched a campaign against him and demanded his resignation.
The party has alleged large-scale irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and has given the Election Commission a 48-hour ultimatum. It warned that if its demands are not met, nationwide protests will be launched and an indefinite sit-in protest will be held in Delhi. The party’s National Convenor Abhijit Dipke, Co-Convenor Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka launched the “Fix the Election Commission” campaign.
The leaders claimed that during the SIR exercise in 30 states and Union Territories, the names of more than 130 million voters—around 13 to 14 percent of the electorate—were deleted from the draft electoral rolls. They claimed that two crore names each were removed in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, one crore in Karnataka and 47 lakh in Delhi.
Abhijit Dipke said, “In a democracy, the people choose the government, but the Election Commission is deciding who will vote and who will not.” He alleged that the other two Election Commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, had formally recorded their objections to decisions taken by bypassing established rules and to the centralisation of data.
It may be noted that a political controversy has erupted following reports of differences within the Election Commission. Opposition parties, including the Congress, have demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Meanwhile, the Delhi Congress has announced a protest outside the Election Commission office today, following which a large number of police personnel have been deployed outside the premises. Security has been further tightened in view of the Delhi Congress protest.
The Indian Youth Congress is also scheduled to hold a protest march today from 5 Raisina Road to Jantar Mantar, demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar. In view of the march, the police have made elaborate security arrangements in the area.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, addressing a press conference on Thursday, launched a strong attack on the Election Commission and the central government. He claimed that large-scale electoral malpractice took place during the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. He said, “I can say with complete certainty that there was malpractice in the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. I have sufficient evidence to prove it. It is not 99 percent but 100 percent certain.”
