Berlin: A strong show of solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people was witnessed in the German capital, Berlin, where participants waved Palestinian flags and chanted slogans demanding an immediate end to Israel’s military aggression and what they described as genocide in the Gaza Strip. The demonstration took place amid heightened tensions and a face-to-face confrontation with a group of Israel supporters.
The protest was part of ongoing public movements across several European cities condemning the brutal war in Gaza, demanding an immediate halt to political and military assistance to Israel, and calling for accountability for alleged Israeli abuses against the Palestinian people.
Demonstrators carried the flags of Palestine, Lebanon and Iran and chanted slogans such as, “Israel, you should be ashamed of yourself.” They also held banners strongly condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza and demanding an end to German government assistance to the Israeli state.
One banner attracted particular attention during the protest march. It read, “One genocide cannot justify another genocide.” The message rejected attempts to justify violence against Palestinians and emphasised the urgent need to end the war and protect civilians.
According to Berlin police, approximately 3,500 people participated in the demonstration organised by the group United for Palestine (“Mutahidun min Ajl Filastin”). The march began in the area between the Federal Chancellery and the German Parliament building as part of solidarity activities marking the Global Day of Action.
Protesters demanded an immediate halt to Israel’s military offensive in the Gaza Strip. They also urged the German government to immediately end all forms of support for Israel, particularly military assistance, at a time when the consequences of the war have led to a devastating humanitarian crisis for Palestinians.
Solidarity movements in support of Palestinians have also spread to other European cities, including London, Milan, Rome and Warsaw. Thousands of demonstrators have taken to the streets in these cities, calling for an end to the ongoing offensive in Gaza and urging their governments to stop supporting Israel.
These public protests are taking place amid growing international calls for accountability over alleged Israeli abuses against Palestinians and for an end to the supply of weapons. Despite the political and security challenges facing demonstrators, the continued mobilisation reflects the enduring concern among sections of the European public over the Palestinian issue.
